Adoption can mean so many things to different people. It also brings a lot of different emotions out in people. It is very personal to me because it is the foundation of my being. While it does not define who I am, it is a part of me. Adoption to me is life. It was the greatest gift that I have ever received. My birth mother gave me the opportunity of a future she could not provide for me at that point in her life.
I was blessed to be adopted with my sister and grow up together. Adoption provided me a normal childhood with all the experiences to go along with it too. I have shared some of my adoption journey struggles and understand that at times there is pain, sadness and grief. But then again, everything in life including life itself that is good will come with struggles, etc., and adoption does also.
My greatest blessing in adoption is the love of my dad. While adoption made him my dad in my heart he was my daddy from the moment I was born he just had to find me. He is my dad because he truly loves me. It does not matter that I do not share his DNA it is beyond that. Adoption brought my family together but our relationships and love is what made us a family. Families are not only made by the blood ties but the choices to be a family even if there no genetic ties.
Adoption was such an amazing gift to me as an adoptee that I also have been honored to become an adoptive mother. I have four amazing children one birth and three adopted there are no differences in my heart. In my family, adoption is the ongoing foundation of my family. My birth daughter talks about when she grows up and adopts a child one day and I think it would truly be great if that should happen.
Adoption is just like everything else in life. It is what we choose to make of it.

I love this post. Families are awesome. The legal stuff is just a piece of paper.
As an adult adoptee I guess this is why I chose to go on and build my family through adoption. Adoption can be a wonderful experience.
