Does Being Adopted Have An Impact On Your Life? Part 2

As a teenager, I did not talk about being adopted or want to talk about it. During this time in my life I just pushed it out of my mind, maybe too much to deal with while going through the horrible teenage stage of life. I am not saying it did not creep in occasionally but for the most part I chose not to deal with it. At this point in my life I was not emotional able to be with it.

As a young adult, adoption had a large impact on my life. I knew that I was given a wonderful chance through adoption and it was up to me how I chose to let it impact me. I wanted the impact to be a positive thing in my life. I also wanted to show others that adoption was not who I was, but how I started my life and that I could be so much more. I knew from my late teens that I wanted to be a foster parent and to adopt children. That I could give a child the chance that I was given through adoption was important to me. I knew that I did not want to be a person that I consider a taker (which a large number of people are in this world), I wanted to give back in some way to make this world a better place. Yes, I know I’m tad naive.

There has been a negative and positive impact on being adopted in my life, which is the case in every person that has been adopted. We all have different experiences good and bad, it is not a road that we chose to go down in life but here we are, so in my thought is how you choose to let it effect your life.
